Why is there a lien on my property from the Business Improvement Districts?

Although the County of Los Angeles records the annual assessment as a lien, it is not an actual cash lien on the property.  The County utilizes the term lien to notify property owners of further annual assessments to be levied on the property for the duration of the Business Improvement District.

 

Can I request a Demand Notice of Assessment?

While our offices can not provide Demands for the Notice of Assessments. We are able to research whether there are any outstanding Assessments for the Business Improvement District Program associated with your property. Should there be no outstanding Assessments our office can provide you with an official response letter that there are no outstanding assessments associated with your property. If that is not sufficient you will need to speak to the LA County Assessor’s Office for assistance.

 

How do I request a Lien Response Letter?

If you would like to request an official Lien Response Letter from our office you will need to provide the following:

  • An official request with a letterhead which includes the Assessor's Parcel Number associated with your property and the property address in question.

  • A copy of the Notice of Assessment from the LA County Assessor’s Office that identifies the Business Improvement District and shows your Assessor's Parcel Number in the list of properties being assessed.

Once we receive your request with the required documents our staff will begin to process your request. Please allow up to 10 business days for your request to be processed.
